As a young believer entering university in Jamaica, Dr. Sarah Buckland Reynolds describes her early years in academia as “a baptism by fire.” In her first year, she encountered more atheists than in all her previous years combined, and many professors dismissed the Bible as myth. “The university was not just a place of learning,” she recalls. “It was a battleground of ideas.”

Those challenges forged in Sarah a deep conviction that faith and intellect are not enemies but partners in revealing the truth of God. Now an academic reviewer, mentor, and ministry leader, Sarah is equipping a new generation of students to think Christianly and engage culture with courage.

Sarah is one of the leaders in the Caribbean chapter of the Society of Christian Scholars and has founded an organization called Chosen to GLOW, which seeks to reach students in the Caribbean. To disciple students, she started a club at the University of the West Indies called Campus CHANGERS (Christian Apologetics for the Next Generation, Evangelism and Research Society). It creates space for students and faculty of all beliefs to explore life’s biggest questions. Through Bible studies, mentoring, and dialogue, Sarah and her team help students like Moses see that Christianity is intellectually robust and spiritually transformative. As Sarah shared:

One of our leaders, Moses, was a Ph.D. student who began hosting a small Bible study in the Chemistry department. At first, the group was tiny, and he was discouraged. But after joining CHANGERS, he grew bolder in sharing his faith and started seeing his peers’ curiosity grow. He now leads conversations not only in class but even at the barber shop, realizing that most people’s objections to Christianity can’t stand up to honest questioning.

Sarah is helping students like Moses discover the confidence to live out and share their faith in settings where skepticism is common.

Global Scholars has come alongside Sarah by providing apologetics seminars, mentoring connections, and opportunities for collaboration with other Christian academics. This outreach is strengthening networks of scholars across the Caribbean and beyond.

Sarah’s story is one example of how your partnership with Global Scholars is helping Christian professors around the world bring biblical truth to the heart of the academy. Because of your support, ministries like Sarah’s are raising up a new generation of Christian thinkers and leaders. Thank you for helping them shine boldly in their spheres of influence.

For Christ and the university,

Stan

My guest in this episode of the College Faith podcast is Alan Shlemon, a staff apologist with Stand to Reason. We discuss how to have spiritual conversations with Muslims and share the good news about Jesus without the conversation turning into an argument.

In this episode of the Thinking Christianly podcast, we continue our series on the debate between realism and nominalism. We take a deeper look at nominalist beliefs and their cultural impact, exploring how to engage this discussion with fellow Christians.
